Isla’s 1966 Penshurst Chair is Complete Written By: xanda January 25 2019 Behind the ScenesHome UpdatesInterior Trends Back in May we spoke about Isla’s visit to our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in rural Nottinghamshire – providing a unique opportunity to see how each one of our Sofas and Chairs is skillfully handcrafted by our master craftsmen and women (visit blog post). Since Isla’s visit, our apprentices have been hard at work, completing the reupholstering of the much-loved vintage chair. The chair is now finished – and looks stunning in it’s brand new greenery inspired William Morris cover. http://www.parkerknoll.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/Spinning-Complete-Chair_video.mp4 The Penshurst Chair has over 65 years’ worth of heritage, illustrated by the 1966 stamp found on this particular frame. The coiled steel wire spring system, developed by WWI fighter pilot Willi Knoll, still provides the ultimate in comfort in our Penshurst chairs today. “The quality of the craftsmanship is exceptional and the piping is a work of art” – Isla Simpson We are very proud of our apprenticeship scheme here at Parker Knoll, and work hard in supporting the development of each and every one of our apprentices to create an increasingly skilled team of talented craftsmen and women. Last week we were able to follow the journey of the Chair’s delivery back to Isla’s elegant Victorian abode through an exclusive Instagram takeover. Why not check out Isla’s Instagram account and blog to find out more about the delivery of her beloved chair. With plenty of English heritage posts and tonnes of vintage inspiration, they are certainly well worth a visit! Follow us on social media to learn more about this project, and see more of our classic designs that have been lovingly reupholstered, giving them a brand new lease of life.
